Sonifex has received an order for two Net-Log audio loggers from Nucleo Radio Mil Comunicaciones (NRM). The radio group is based in Mexico City and is one of the main radio networks in Mexico. The deal was collaborated by Diuxi SA de CV, the Sonifex distributor in Mexico.
NRM was looking for a reliable system capable of storing all day transmissions from each of its radio stations. The group has 6 radio stations, 3 on FM and 3 on AM wavebands.
Agustin Gonzalez of Diuxi offered a number of reasons why NRM decided to use the Net-Log machines : “We offered this product to NRM so that they wouldn’t have to deal with magnetic tapes and would not have to wait for the availability of audio – it can be streamed in real-time from the Net-Log. Hard disks are cheaper than they used to be with larger capacities and the system can be integrated into a standard ethernet network. There are no mechanical parts, apart from the hard-disk, which makes it a more reliable unit as well as a faster system for accessing the previously recorded material. Finally, the quality of the recording can be selected by the user depending on their requirements – it’s very simple”
The Net-Log overcomes the inherent unreliability of PCs for long-term recording by providing a dedicated hardware recording platform that uses a simple network connection for audio playback. Net-Log is able to record 4 mono, or 2 stereo audio streams for play-back over TCP/IP. Audio is encoded in mpeg layer 2 format and written to a large internal IDE hard disk drive. Playback is carried out by streaming the audio across a network onto one, or many PCs.
Additionally, the Net-Log audio logger is now supplied with a 60GB hard-drive as standard, increased from 30GB, which allows over 8 months of recording at low bandwidth, and there is an option for a 120GB hard-drive to be installed.
