Sonifex Showing New Products at NAB 2002
Sonifex will be exhibiting at the 2002 NAB exhibition in booth L2466 in the Radio/Audio Hall, showing a range of new and exciting products to add to their successful current portfolio.

The success of the Redboxes, a range of analogue and digital audio interface boxes, is set to continue. Recently released products include the RB-SP1 Digital Splitter & Combiner, the RB-BL4 Bi-Directional Matching Converter and the RB-LU4 Quad Stereo Balanced to Unbalanced Converter.

The RB-SP1 Digital Splitter & Combiner has two uses. Firstly it can split or combine the old standard 96kHz (2x48kHz XLR) AES/EBU signal into 1x96kHz AES/EBU XLR. Secondly, it is used to split the left and right signals of an AES/EBU input to two separate AES/EBU outputs, and vice-versa. The RB-SP1 can handle sample rates up to 96kHz and bit-rates of 16, 20 and 24 bit.

The RB-BL4 is a bi-directional stereo unit for interfacing domestic or semi-pro unbalanced equipment to professional balanced line levels, and vice versa. The RB-LU4 is a 1U rack-mount quad stereo unit for interfacing professional balanced line levels to domestic or semi-pro unbalanced equipment.

There are a number of new products being launched at the AES show which include the RB-HD1 single stereo headphone amplifier, the RB-DMA2 dual digital microphone amplifier, the RB-DAC1 digital to analogue converter and the RB-DHD6 digital headphone amplifier.

The RB-HD1 is a rack-mount stereo headphone amplifier for driving up to two pairs of professional stereo headphones from a single stereo or mono input. It also has a mono mix input, eg, for mixing in talkback to a main feed, and is VCA remotely controllable. The RB-DMA2 consists of two independent low-noise microphone pre-amplifiers for converting microphone level signals to AES/EBU or S/PDIF digital outputs, eg, for adding a microphone input to a digital mixing console.

The RB-DAC1 Digital to Analogue Converter is a 1U rack-mount unit which produces a stereo balanced XLR, or unbalanced phono, output from an incoming AES/EBU or S/PDIF digital input signal. The RB-DHD6 digital headphone amplifier is a 1U rack-mount which has both AES/EBU and S/PDIF digital inputs and produces 6 separately buffered headphone outputs, each with their own volume control.

The Net-Log multi-channel network audio logger is now supplied with a 60GB hard-disk as standard. Designed to be operated and controlled by PCs on a network, Net-Log combines the reliability of a dedicated hardware recorder with the flexibility of editing and playout over a network. It can record 4 mono, or 2 stereo, audio streams for playback using TCP/IP. Many radio stations throughout the world must log their station output for regulatory purposes. Net-Log allows them to do this with ease, being able to store many weeks of audio on a 60GB hard-disk, together with the ability to archive to other media for long-term retrieval.

Following the acquisition of the Nicral product range last year, Sonifex will be displaying the ARC AkCESS software for ISDN remote control and audio routing.

Also on display is the USB version of the Courier portable flash-card recorder. The Courier’s USB B connector supports USB 1.1 and enables downloads to the PC of up to 40 times real-time speed. The USB connection allows the flashcard or hard-disk used for recording to be permanently stored in the Courier without the need for removal. Files can be quickly downloaded to a PC by USB, the disk wiped and recording started again in a fraction of the time normally needed.

Also on show is the HY-02 range of analogue and digital telephone balance units.
