Largest Ever Order For Courier Flashcard Portable Recorders Announced by Sonifex
Sonifex have received an order from their Indian distributor, Comcon Industries, for 300 Courier flashcard portable recorders. The order was won by Comcon Industries from a tender by All India Radio (AIR) who asked for bids to be submitted in 2002. The recorders are to be used throughout India in all the regions of the country and are for local broadcasting. They are to be used together with the Dalet Radio Automation System with seamless integration.

Sonifex Managing Director Marcus Brooke commented : “We’re delighted that All India Radio have chosen the Courier to be their standard portable recorder. They’ve chosen the ISDN version of the machine which means that they’ll be able to do live ISDN reporting as well as voice recording and editing in the field. The Courier is a fantastically versatile machine and I’m sure that it will meet their current and future needs.”

“Previous to this order, we’d supplied almost 400 Couriers to the BBC, but these had been supplied over a period of 2 years from more than 3 separate orders. The new order for machines is the largest single order received so far and is a clear vindication of the acceptability of the Courier as a reliable portable recorder for national broadcasters worldwide.”

Rakesh Aggarwal, MD of Comcon Industries said :”The reason that AIR chose the Courier over the competing products was simply that it provided an outstanding feature set for the lowest price. It was important that the portable recorder chosen functioned well and that it would integrate seamlessly with the Dalet system – the Courier does this and also has an ISDN terminal adapter for live audio connections.”

The Courier portable recorder is an award-winning, solid state audio recorder designed for radio journalist’s that uses removeable PCMCIA hard-disks or flash-cards to make stereo or dual mono audio recordings. All features of Courier are aimed at making the job of recording, editing and transferring audio simple, quick and reliable.

A large graphical display details the recording level and time count-up, while also giving an indication of disk space remaining and battery condition. It uses standard 8mm camcorder batteries which are available world-wide and can be changed without interrupting the recording process.

Courier provides sophisticated, non-destructive editing facilities including a jog/shuttle wheel for accurate edits. Courier is able to transfer audio back to base without having to return to the studio, via standard telephone lines, built-in ISDN communications, or via a mobile phone. Alternatively, the Courier can be connected directly to a PC using the USB connection. The USB connector supports USB 1.1 and enables downloads to the PC of up to 40 times real-time speed, connecting seamlessly with Windows Explorer in Win 98 and Windows 2000.
